Pen Drive – The Most Convenient Way of Transferring Data

USB Pen Drives or Pen Drives are a removable external device that is used for transferring data from one PC to another PC.

Remember the day when you had to depend on a floppy disk or CD to store data and transfer it to another PC? It was not only disadvantageous but also restricted to the presence of a floppy disk or CD driver in the PCs. The process of burning content into the CDs or copying the data unto the floppy diskettes was a pain in the neck. Then again, it was an excruciatingly time consuming process as well. Not to mention about the little storage space that was never enough for the users to copy enough data. So they had to use multiple CDs or floppy diskettes to copy a large amount of content.

Thanks to the constant innovations in the Information and Technology, the Pen drives have come as a relief for the many users and they are being used predominately for copying and transferring data.

Here are some advantages of USB Pen Drives:

They are dust-free and shock-free. So, you don`t need to worry about cleaning them once in a while. Also, you are free from the fear of shock as they are shock-free.

They weigh way too less in comparison to the other external storage media.

They transfer data from your PC pretty soon and therefore, are efficient for work.

They can store a lot of data in them and are a good alternative for data back-up for your PC.

Buying a pen drive is a big task and as a buyer, you should know a lot of things. Take a look at the following buying tips which can help you purchase a good pen drive. Here they go:

Know Your Needs: What will you use a pen drive for? If you are going to use it only for transferring a small amount of data on a regular basis, a 512 MB pen drive should do well. Pen drives are available in different storage capacities starting from as small as 32 MB to as big as 10 GB. Pen drives with high storage capacity don`t cost you astronomically; however, they can be extremely handy for backing up the huge amount of data in your PC if you consider formatting your PC. However, many people use pen drives with 1 or 2 GB storage capacity as they can store a fair amount audio files, video files and other data.

Password Protection: Adding to the convenience of pen drive users, modern pen drive manufacturers have come up with use features such as password protection. Now you can password protect some of your files and folders in your pen drives to ensure safety and security. Hence, if you think you need this feature in your pen drive, then specify your search criteria so that you will be able to buy a pen drive with this feature without having to spend some extra bucks.

Read The Reviews: The best way to find maximum information about various pen drives is to read the reviews on pen drives at different websites on the Internet. Usually, you will get a fair idea on the various features of different pen drives, their performance and prices as well. Some websites also add buyers` feedback which helps you get the right information on different pen drives.

Looking for the Best Usb Flash Drive?

If you’re not already the proud and happy owner of a USB flash memory drive then it’s about time you got one! These little devices are incredibly useful, portable and very easy-to-use. Whether you need to transfer files between computers or you’re just looking for a small and highly portable backup device these little gadgets are perfect!

These small drives go by several different names including USB sticks, USB drive, USB flash drive, flash stick, thumb drive and jump drive. Most of these names are not very accurate, however, chances are good that if you hear somebody talking about any one of these things, they’re talking about the same type of USB flash memory drive that we’ve all come to know and love – at least if you already own one you’ll feel this way.

How big are they?

The reason they are also called thumb drives is that most of them are about the size of your thumb, if not smaller. As a result, you can fit these in your laptop case, in a pocket, or even put them on a lanyard around your neck – no more lugging around dozens of CDs or DVDs on a business trip or to college for example.

How much data can they store?

This depends on the USB flash drive that you choose. Up until a few months ago, the largest size was a 2GB drive and that seemed massive at the time. However, several brands now also offer a 4GB option now, and 8GB flash drives are just starting to appear on the market. There are also a few very small portable external hard drives that use flash memory as well so these are another potential option for the prospective flash drive owner.

How much do they cost?

Depending on the size of the USB flash drive that you buy and whether or not they are on sale, they can be anywhere from $10 to $120. You can usually find a good deal on 1GB flash drives in most online stores.

USB flash memory is not the best option if you are looking for a long term backup of a large amount files due to the basic size constraints i.e. backing up a 300GB hard drive to a set of USB flash drives would be insanely expensive. However, if you are looking to transfer files from one computer to another or just need a copy of important work or personal data that doesn’t stretch into hundreds of gigabytes then a USB flash drive is readymade for this kind of work.

Another great thing about these drives is that because they’re USB based they work on both Macs and PCs without any problems. Do yourself a massive favor and invest in a USB flash drive today – you’ll never regret your decision.

The Best USB Gadgets On The Market

Let’s be honest there is nothing more exciting than finding a new gadget that can at the very least keep you entertained and at the very most revolutionise the way you do things. Okay I admit that these are not easy criteria against which you can judge a new gadget.

I guess on reflection the gadget might not have to revolutionise your life but nevertheless it should without doubt use new technology and make you raise a smile. Some of the best examples of new gadgets are the range of USB gadgets that have been released onto the market.

For those technophobes out there the USB or Universal Serial Bus is, put simply, a way of connecting an external device to your computer. A lot of people these days carry around small USB pens that hold information at play the same role that the floppy disc used to.

Nowadays a great deal of the equipment that is used alongside a computer such as a keyboard and the mouse can be connected this way. And in the gadget world many toys have been created that utilise this technology.

I was recently given a USB pole dancing woman that I have called Beatrice. Beatrice dances every time I type a word into my keyboard. She also keeps count of the number of words I write in a day – she’s not just a pretty face then! My colleagues and I find it hilarious although I don’t think my boss is too impressed when she stays quiet for half a day – a big giveaway if you’re not writing!

Anyway here is an insight into some of the best USB offerings that I have found available in the market.

USB Boxer

I recently came across the USB boxer. This six inch tall guy stands on your desk and pounds away at a punch bag at the rate at which you punch. The device comes with unbelievable sound effects that sound on the impact of the gloves to the punch bag and makes authentic ringside noises.

The software package includes some games in which you can enact a boxing bout and the action on screen is relayed and played out by the man in front of you. Pitched as a great way to work out some aggression this USB gadget really packs a punch!

USB putting green

The USB putting green is a great way to play golf against your workmates without even leaving the office. You don’t need a silly dress code just a slightly silly sense of humour. It is a miniature version of the conventional ball returning putt returner.

The aim of the game is to putt into the centre of the device and the ball is subsequently spat back at you. It comes with two miniature putters and fortunately six tiny balls – there is no excuse for losing them then – especially considering you are unlikely to have a water hazard or bunker on your desk.

USB Dog

Okay this takes the prize for the funniest, yet at the same time, most tasteless of all the USB gadgets I have come across. The dog is attached to a USB device which, when connected to the computer, humps away like a dog on heat. The marketing men say that your computer has done a great deal for you and that it’s about time you gave something back. I’m not sure this is exactly what they meant but very funny nevertheless!

Are all the state-of-the-art, high-tech gadgets and databases featured in shows like CSI Miami, for real?

Do facilities for forensic investigation like the ones in the show, really exist, or is it just show business? Some Mexican friends would really like to know, and I don´t wish to hurt their feelings, especially when compared to the very limited resources and investigation methods available in their country.

yes, they are pretty much real.

the inside of the labs isn’t as television pretty as you see, of course, since the Miami police do not have huge budgets. Nor do the police anywhere else that I know of.

I do see a few not real things in the CSI shows — mostly they’re such trivial details as the CSI:NY crew rushing across town to some site and having no backup from the blues — in a city where there are 10,000 officers in blue you’d think a few cars worth could be scrambled at any time to back up a play against a murderer. And other silly stuff like that.

Does anyone know of any good tech gadgets?

I am a gadget person, and with Christmas approaching (I know summer isn’t even over but it will be here soon enough) my wife wants gadget ideas to get me. I already have the following:

desktop pc
Wifi router
notebook pc
portable DVD player
pocket pc w/bluetooth and Wifi
bluetooth enabled cell phone with camera
30 GB video iPod
900Mhz wireless stereo headphones
bluetooth headset for cell phone
12 mp digital camera
lightscribe dvd burner

Can anyone tell me about any other must have gadgets and hopefully include web links?

22" Widescreen flat panel display (1680×1050 res)

What to get a 23 year old guy who is not into sports but loves tool and high tech gadgets ?

I want to get him something great but Im on a budget and cant really spend more than $100 on him for christmas. Were moving in together in Jan . He is all about playing the bass, currently he is playing fable II video game and doesn’t really like sports So any ideas?

Hi…those men can be difficult to buy for, huh? My husband is one of them too. I would recommend buying him a gift card for one of his favorite stores. You could then buy him a nice Christmas card and right a sweet message to let him know how much you love him and put the gift card in the card. Merry Christmas…early:)

Can people really afford all the expensive tech gadgets out there?

I see many people who buy these things…….but i wonder……are they still paying little by little and paying for services……..is it worth it. A good example is the Iphone. It has lots of cool features but its extra right?

While many people do by the new (and expensive) tech items to make themselves ‘feel richer’, I believe that most people are more like my husband and I … while we can certainly ‘afford’ the best and newest, we choose to wait, to see what happens next, and when we do buy, we buy what we NEED for our uses. We have ‘top of the line’ computers that are ‘home built’ (my husband is a web developer with the proper skills), and are now looking into getting an HDTV … but we want one about 32" and we want to get the least expensive way to get the shows we usually watch … and we’ll also have great DVD play, too, of course, even though we have only a ‘normal’ DVD player … we have many (over 100) DVDs and we won’t get any ‘HD’ (probably Blu-Ray at this point, but it’s still early) player until that has ’settled down’ and we can see which will be the one that ’survives’ longer than a year or two. We do NOT have the fanciest cell phones (we do carry ‘pay as you go’ phones for emergencies and to tell time), and we don’t own a car and won’t own a car because we live in the city, and we don’t want to ‘pollute’ the world any more than is absolutely necessary. As long as we’re HAPPY then we’ll continue to make our purchases according to our own schedule, and not to the ’schedules’ many companies use to keep people BUYING when what they’ve got is ‘good enough’ for at least 2-5 years more.
